September 25 & 26, 2009 Homecoming Activities

Come on Home

The Nebraska Alumni Association is at the center of this year’s Homecoming activities! Join us at the Wick Alumni Center’s Holling Garden on Friday, Sept. 25, for an evening of festivities including Football Friday, the Homecoming parade and Come On Home Pep Rally. Enjoy food, beverages and live entertainment throughout the night. Also, the Wick Center will be open from 3 - 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Stop by, grab some refreshments and watch a football game on our big screen.

Can’t make it to Lincoln this year for Homecoming? You can still participate by donating blood at a local blood center and counting it toward the “Give Big Red” Homecoming Blood Drive. Details are below.

4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. FOOTBALL FRIDAY

  • Holling Garden
  • Program:
    • 4:30 – Doors open
    • 5 p.m. – Chalk Talk with Matt Davison
    • 5:15 p.m. – Nebraska vs. Louisiana-Lafayette game preview. Panel includes Matt Davison, Tommie Frazier, Mitch Sherman of the Omaha World-Herald and Curt McKeever of the Lincoln Journal Star. Hosted by Kevin Sjuts, KOLN/KGIN 10/11
    • 5:45 p.m. – Prize winners announced
  • Door Prizes: Win football tickets, Champions Club passes, Husker memorabilia
  • Food and drinks available for purchase.
  • Admission: FREE

6 – 6:45 p.m. BIG RED PARADE VIEWING

  • Watch all the floats, live entertainment, homecoming royalty candidates and members of the 1962 football team from the Wick Alumni Center’s Holling Garden at 16th and R streets. The Wick Center is right in the middle of the parade route.
  • Admission: FREE

6:45 – 7:30 p.m. COME ON HOME PEP RALLY (or immediately following the parade)

  • Program:
    • Introduction of homecoming royalty candidates
    • Kids Homecoming Art Contest Winners announced*
    • Appearances by former players Johnny Rodgers, Tommy Frazier, Matt Davison, Todd Peterson
    • Husker Spirit Squad performance
    • Releasing of the Balloons/Ringing of the Bell (new tradition)
    • Special performance by UNL’s Bathtub Dogs
  • Enjoy balloon animals, face painting, children’s games & activities
  • FREE Pepsi products and food for purchase.
  • Admission: FREE

Saturday, Sept. 26

3 – 5:30 p.m. ALUMNI SIDELINES

Stop by the Wick Alumni Center for deserts and refreshments on your way to the 300th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium.

6:00 p.m. KICK-OFF: ENJOY THE GAME!

Join the student body and sport your best Devaney-Era outfit to the game!!!

Ongoing Homecoming Activities

GIVE BIG RED (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15)

Alumni nationwide are invited to participate in the UNL Homecoming Blood Drive.

For local alumni:
  • Donate at the East Campus Union Sept. 21-22 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Donate at the City Union on Sept. 23-24 from 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Donate at any of the Community Blood Bank locations and indicate that you want your donation to count toward the UNL Homecoming Drive
For alumni living outside of Lincoln:
  • Donate at any local community blood center between Sept. 15 – Oct. 15, then log onto donor.don8bld.org/alumni/ and complete our online form to register your donation.
